I am not sure what happened

Pause, write down what happened and protect the most important accounts first.

You do not need to identify the exact type of scam before taking sensible precautions.

  1. Stop contact with the caller or sender.
  2. Write down what you clicked, entered, installed, shared or paid.
  3. Use another trusted device if you think this one is being controlled.
  4. Contact your bank immediately if money or bank details may be involved.
  5. Change exposed passwords, starting with email.
  6. Ask somebody you trust to review the situation with you.
Do not use contact details supplied by the suspicious person.

Find the genuine organisation through its official app, website, statement or payment card.

Report suspicious emails to report@phishing.gov.uk and suspicious texts to 7726. If you lost money or an account was accessed, report the incident through the appropriate official route.
